Dear Sex Goddess, Can women get jock itch? I think I have it. Can I have sex while I have it? Itching and Burning in Ypsi Dear Sex Goddess, I’m feeling less than heavenly these days in the greater crotch region. A few weeks ago I started feeling sensitive between the thighs, then suddenly a slick heat became my constant companion. It tickles, itches, and when I scratch there's a moment of orgiastic relief and pleasure before a horrific burning begins in the torn skin. I've iced my beautiful vagina to numb the pain, put anti-itch lotion on there, nothing is helping! I want to die, my mojo is halved, I feel like a stranger unto my loins. Throw me a rope, I'm sinking to a near genitalicide outlook! NY Heat Dear Hot Crotches, Ah, yes, they call it “crotch rot.” A surprising number of women silently suffer with the unbearable experience of jock itch with little knowledge that women can get it. In mysoginistic medical terms, when men experience this affliction of fungus, it’s an "athlete's itch," which can hit the feet or greater penile area, but in women it’s a rotting of the crotch! So, yes, women can get it! Same way as all genders, the fungus that creates the symptoms of jock itch loves hot wet places, like the crease where the thigh meets the pussy. You likely have several hot wet places on your body. You can get jock itch when you exercise and don't shower and change quickly afterward, swim and then don't change out of your swim gear quickly, wear many layers where your special warm parts can't breath, wear synthetic panties or boxers (cotton is better), or basically do anything that lets you get wet in the crotch without an opportunity to dry out. The symptoms are all external: itching, scaly skin, burning, and a rash that looks like a growing birthmark. It can be extremely uncomfortable to have anything contact the genital surface. I wouldn't recommend sex while battling jock itch because of the discomfort, and because extended exposure during hot wet activities can allow the fungus to jump crotches, if you get my drift. Treat it with over the counter powders and powder sprays that contain miconazole, clotrimazole, or tolnaftate. Keep the area dry! And don't scratch, no matter how orgiastic the relief is. Toward total cootchie health! SG ======= Sex Goddess is now on MySpace! Visit, chat and add her as your friend. Do you have a question? Email SG at SexAndRelationships@WireTapMag.org. Rules: 1. I hate rules! 2. There are no stupid questions, only stupid hang-ups. 3. Pleasure came before political correctness, and so should you! 4. Love yourself first. Who: Who I am is unimportant. I do, however, enjoy sex, dally in various relationships, and on top of that I am an organizer by trade, or perhaps faith. I declare here and now that I know as much as anyone about sex and relationships -- which is roughly nothing and everything. Why: Organizers, activists, change makers, closet progressives -- people trying to save the world often have a hard time figuring out how to ... do it. Whatever it might be at the moment -- love, dominate, submit, indulge, deny, give, take, fight, let go, wonder, know. I secretly suspect that if everyone were able to find the freedom to really love and please themselves (not to mention each other), the world would be a much more peaceful place.
